## What cite-nexus does, in the publisher's words

This MCP-only plugin exposes CiteNexus alongside a writing plugin such as WTF-P. It contains an Agent Plugins 1.0 manifest and Codex/Claude compatibility manifests. The running host must already be able to find cite-nexus-mcp on its PATH. Install cite-nexus-mcp==0.2.2 with uv tool install cite-nexus-mcp==0.2.2 first; no package installation occurs during plugin loading. This plugin directory remains a local integration for client qualification, independently of the Python package release.

The server ignores.env files. Pass optional credentials through your host's supported secret/environment configuration, and select paid providers explicitly. No credentials are bundled here. The default sources need none.

Test local plugin discovery and lifecycle using a disposable host profile before distribution. Schema validation and direct MCP process checks do not certify a native client's installation or uninstall behavior. This plugin is an optional host-managed connection to all CiteNexus tools; WTF-P's bounded citation-search backend uses its separate cite-nexus-wtfp companion and does not depend on native plugin MCP support.
