# metis-check
Metis Check settles identifiers at the bodies that issue them. Give it one identifier (a DOI, PubMed ID, arXiv id, ORCID, ROR, ISBN, LEI, ISIN, CUSIP, SEC CIK, EIN, NPI, RxCUI, PubChem CID, OpenAlex id, Wikidata item, UK company number, FAA N-number, USGS event id, domain name or U.S. case citation) or a passage that contains several, and it asks the registry for each one and answers with exactly one of four states: settled true, settled false, not decidable (a person decides) or unreachable (a delay, not evidence). Anything it did not look at is reported as not checked, with the reason. Every check ends in a report with a unique id (MC-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX), a public page, a PDF, signed receipts and a recheck button that asks the registries again. It checks the checkable parts of a text at the source; it does not grade a text true or false.

## What metis-check does, in the publisher's words

The Metis verification engine as a plugin for ChatGPT and Codex (one listing in the OpenAI plugin directory). One identifier, or every identifier in one passage, settled at the body that issues it and answered with exactly one of four states: settled true, settled false, not decidable (a person decides) or unreachable (a delay, not evidence). Anything not looked at is reported as not checked, with the reason. Every check ends in a report with a unique id (MC-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX), a public page, a PDF, signed receipts and a recheck button.

The plugin is a thin package. All the work happens on the Metis API:

- MCP endpoint: https://check-api.metisfoundry.com/mcp/check (streamable HTTP; apps/api/app/mcp_remote.py)
- Tools: check_identifier, check_text, get_report (apps/api/app/mcp_check.py)

From the project README, punctuation lightly normalized. Full text: https://raw.githubusercontent.com/hashgraph-online/awesome-codex-plugins/HEAD/plugins/MetisFoundry/metis-plugins/README.md
